We are a community choir, independent of The Borough Market (Southwark) but a group of staff, trustees, traders and customers; all connected by a love of food! Founded in 2011 to perform at a community concert at The Shakespeare's Globe, the choir was inspired to continue performing. Today we sing all around SE1 (and beyond!), including the Tate Modern, The Southbank Centre and Shakespeare's Globe. We have taken part in flash mobs, collaborated with local artists and theatre directors, and performed together within our community.
We are a non-auditioning community choir that rehearses on Thursday evenings from 6.30 - 8pm, and we sing purely for fun. Our repertoire covers everything from traditional English songs, Christmas carols, Shakespeare, film songs to pop songs, sung in four-part harmony. We believe enthusiasm is more important than having a good voice, so we do not hold auditions.
Please note that though tenors and basses can join immediately, we have a waiting list for altos and sopranos since we are at capacity. Email us to register your interest and join for the next 10 weeks' rehearsals at: firstname.lastname@example.org
I enjoy singing in a group of like - minded people as this is stimulating and fun. This is a complete contrast to the serious nature of my normal working week.
I love singing/performing because it makes me smile. The people I have met through singing share the same enthusiasm I do and they're friends for life I believe. Borough Market Choir was the first place I made friends with people from London outside of work, and it's because we all love the same thing!
Being in the choir has made me fall in love with music all over again. Nothing bonds you to other people quite like singing together. I joined this choir to meet people and make friends and I count my choir buddies as some of my very best!
Being part of this choir has opened me up to opportunities I would not otherwise had. Meeting and feeling part of a wonderful group of people who share a strong interest in music and song is wonderful.
I love to sing and perform because it makes me happy - as well as being really fun, it's also very satisfying to practice a song and then hear how great it sounds after all the practice, especially when it gets appreciated by an audience too.
Whatever the event, you are guaranteed to have a special time with Borough Market Choir singing feel-good pop songs or classical hymns. Book us now and we'll be sure to add a professional, fun and relaxed vibe to any party or gathering.
